Cost Analysis: Newberry County Fire & Rescue
By leveraging various aspects of our business, Vector can benefit captive shop customers and their bottom lines. The following example highlights a program developed for Newberry County Fire & Rescue squad vehicles.

Newberry County was responsible for transporting fire and rescue vehicles to and from the County Maintenance facility for preventive maintenance and repair, incurring the cost for fuel and man-hours required. In addition, vehicles could be out-of-service for at least eight to 24 hours depending on the maintenance being performed. By deploying a mobile service unit (MSU) to Newberry County’s various stations, Vector offered substantial savings.

FACTS
There are 82 pieces of Fire Rescue equipment domiciled at Newberry County fire stations.
Average roundtrip distance from the stations to the county shop is 10 miles.
Each Fire & Rescue vehicle has preventive maintenance performed twice per year.
Two Fire Department personnel are required to deliver/pick-up a vehicle for service.

TANGIBLE SAVINGS
Fuel              82 vehicles x 2 PMIs/year = 164 PMIs
                    164 PMIs x 10 miles/PMI = 1,640 miles
                    1,640 miles/8 mpg = 205 gallons consumed
                    205 x $2.27/gal = $465.35

Labor           2 people x 2 hrs/PMI occurrence = 4 labor-hours/PMI
                    4 labor-hours x 164 PMIs = 656 man-hours

VEHICLE AVAILABILITY
Down-time   Previous Solution: 164 PMIs x 8 hr avg/PMI = 1,312 hrs
                    Proposed Solution: 164 PMIs x 3 hr avg/PMI = 492 hrs
                    Savings of 820 Hours OR
Increased readiness by 34 days over the course of 1 year

NOTE: The above analysis does not take into consideration the impact associated with ease of doing business as a result of this proposed solution, or continued savings due to rising fuel prices.
