Newberry County was responsible for transporting fire and rescue vehicles to and from the County Maintenance facility for preventive maintenance and repair, incurring the cost for fuel and man-hours required. In addition, vehicles could be out-of-service for at least eight to 24 hours depending on the maintenance being performed. By deploying a mobile service unit (MSU) to Newberry County’s various stations, Vector offered substantial savings.
FACTS
• There are 82 pieces of Fire Rescue equipment domiciled at Newberry County fire stations.
• Average roundtrip distance from the stations to the county shop is 10 miles.
• Each Fire & Rescue vehicle has preventive maintenance performed twice per year.
• Two Fire Department personnel are required to deliver/pick-up a vehicle for service.
TANGIBLE SAVINGS
Fuel 82 vehicles x 2 PMIs/year = 164 PMIs
164 PMIs x 10 miles/PMI = 1,640 miles
1,640 miles/8 mpg = 205 gallons consumed
205 x $2.27/gal = $465.35
Labor 2 people x 2 hrs/PMI occurrence = 4 labor-hours/PMI
4 labor-hours x 164 PMIs = 656 man-hours
